Credit: Ci-Daemon via Wikimedia Commons.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Zionist Organization of America, the Israel Law Center, the Batar Zionist Movement, Shields of David and other Jewish organizations are advocating for the resignation of Jamie Levitt, chairman of Cooper Union in New York City.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis demand comes in response to repeated acts of heinous antisemitism\u201d at the private college in Lower Manhattan, where \u201cstudents and faculty gathered to celebrate acts of jihad and praise terrorists,\u201d the organizations said in a <a href=\"https:\/\/zoa.org\/2024\/10\/10451577-zoa-and-other-jewish-organizations-demand-high-profile-lawyer-resign-as-chairman-of-cooper-union\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">joint statement<\/a> on Oct. 16.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cNothing is done, and nothing changes. We demand that Jamie Levitt resign immediately as chairman of Cooper Union,\u201d said Nitsana Darshan Leitner of Shurat HaDin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The statement outlined specific instances of antisemitism and the praising of terrorist acts, including administrators characterizing Israel\u2019s war against Hamas in Gaza after the terrorist attacks of Oct. 7, 2023, as \u201cone year of genocide.\u201d That month, students at Cooper Union harassed a group of their Jewish peers to the point where they had to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jns.org\/cooper-union-protesters-intimidate-jewish-students\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">barricade<\/a> themselves in the campus library for safety.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThere must be zero tolerance for this rising scourge of Jew-hatred and Israel-hatred, which pose a huge danger to Jews and the entire country and world,\u201d said Morton Klein, national president of ZOA. \u201cCooper Union had failed that important principle. Its board chair must go.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The groups also intend to address Levitt\u2019s workplace; she is <a href=\"https:\/\/cooper.edu\/about\/trustees\/jamie-levitt\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">co-chair<\/a> of the commercial litigation and trial group, and former head of the New York litigation department, at the firm Morrison &amp; Foerster.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe demand she resign immediately, or we will consider alternative ways to place pressure on the firm.
