Since the end of the Second World War, the French Rabbinate has organized an annual ceremony at the Great Synagogue of Paris on the Sunday preceding Rosh Hashanah, in memory of the victims of the Shoah.
This year, the ceremony highlighted the courage and heroism of Jewish youth during the Holocaust. The heroic figure of Pavel Frankel and the young Betarim was remembered. The Warsaw Ghetto Uprising remains one of the most heroic chapters in Jewish history. Like the Maccabees and the Zealots, the Betarim fought with courage and self-sacrifice to preserve the honor and dignity of the people of Israel.
May the memory of the Betarim who fell during the Shoah defending the Jewish people be a source of inspiration for today’s youth.
The ceremony was opened by several Jewish youth movements, including the Éclaireurs Israélites de France (Jewish Scouts), Bnei Akiva, Hashomer Hatzair, and, after twenty years of absence, Betar!
What a pride it was to wear the Betar shirt again for this historic ceremony and to honor the legacy of our predecessors.
Tel Hai!
On these days of darkness and hate, antisemitism attacks and takes off legitimacy on The State of Israel and it’s existence, Betar lights Jewish lights.Beitar has a presence in 10 countries worldwide and is expected to expand to even more locations in the future.
